Inspired by Nature
From his off grid homestead nestled in the backwoods of northern British Columbia, Canada, Dave Godber works to create pieces that will bring beauty and joy into everyday life.
The Shaker sentiment, “Don’t make something unless it is both necessary and useful; but if it is both necessary and useful, don’t hesitate to make it beautiful.”, sums it up well.

Locally Made
Every SilverTree piece has a story. They all begin with a walk in the woods, searching for just the right tree from just the right place. From this starting point the pieces are drawn out. The clear trunks will get turned into chairs, branches become coat hooks and spoons, bark becomes containers. The wood will describe the story it wants to tell. Once a finished piece has found a new home its story begins anew. The patina of a much loved wooden item begins to develop from the first time you handle it, making it truly yours.
Our Approach
Every piece from SilverTree is created using only human and solar power. Use less, waste less.
The finish always includes tool marks. This serves to delight your sense of touch and as a reminder that the object you are holding was made by hand.
The three main devices - Chopping block, Pole Lathe, and Shaving Horse
Working with green wood for over 10 years Dave has developed his own style within a traditional world. Living off grid has strongly influenced the approach. The aim is to make use of every piece of wood harvested. Pieces that are unsuitable are turned into charcoal for use in the forge for making new tools, or they are burned in the wood cookstove, helping to feed the family.
